Norrbotten Sound Lab gave local electronic music a stage in Luleå
On 30 May 2026, Lillan in Luleå hosted an afternoon of electronic music, local creativity and new sounds as part of Arctic Electronic Music Meetup – AEM 2026.
Norrbotten Sound Lab brought local music creators together with artists and producers taking part in AEM. Around 100 people joined the afternoon to discover music being created in Norrbotten and across the North.
A stage for local music creators
A central part of the programme featured music created through the LJUDLABB courses in Piteå and Luleå.
The participants were given an opportunity to move their music from computers, studios and rehearsal spaces onto a stage and share it with an audience.
Electronic music is often created independently, away from traditional band and concert settings. Norrbotten Sound Lab created an accessible space where local creators could gain performance experience, present their work and meet others interested in electronic music.
The programme introduced the audience to a broad range of electronic sounds and live performances, while giving the artists a chance to hear their music in a new setting.
Connecting the local scene with AEM
Norrbotten Sound Lab also connected local music creators with the wider network gathered in Luleå for AEM 2026.
Artists and producers from Sweden, Norway and Finland contributed to the programme, bringing different sounds, experiences and approaches into the same space.
Music created during Electronic Producers Camp 2026 was also presented during the afternoon. The producers shared their new material with the audience and received feedback from AEM participants and other music professionals.
This created a natural meeting point for creators at different stages of their development. Local participants had an opportunity to connect with artists, producers and organisers from other parts of the North, while visiting AEM participants were introduced to the music and people active in Norrbotten.
Creating space for new sounds
Strong music scenes need places where people can experiment, perform and meet others who share their interests.
Norrbotten Sound Lab created one of those spaces. It gave local electronic music a stage, brought creators with different levels of experience together and connected the local programme with the wider Arctic Electronic Music Meetup.
The afternoon showed the value of combining local creative development with wider cross-border exchange — creating opportunities for new music, new contacts and future collaboration.
Norrbotten Sound Lab was organised by Arctic Pulse and Norrbottensmusiken in collaboration with Joncell Productions, Studieförbundet Bilda Nord and Folkuniversitetet Norrbotten.
